NORFOLK PLANT HERITAGE
WORKSHOP: LITTLE BLUE BULBS
Workshops run by Richard Hobbs are always popular and this latest one on Little Blue Bulbs and Friends was no exception. Both the morning and afternoon sessions at Blacksmith's Cottage Nursery were fully booked. We looked at a number of bulbs that flower at this time of the year and are mostly (and somewhat surprisingly) in the Asparagaceae family. These included Scilla, Chionodoxa, Puschkinia, Muscari and Hyacinth. As is usual at these workshops, we were able to dissect the flowers and learn much about the botany, pollinators etc. Richard also recommended some excellent books for reference and further reading. All in all a successful workshop; hopefully those who attended can now tell their Chionodoxa from their Puschkinia! Thanks must go to Richard and also to Ben and Sarah Potterton who allowed us to use accommodation at the nursery free of charge and provided refreshments.
The video below gives you a taste of what is on offer at one of our workshops. It is on a self playing loop and you need to have your sound up to hear it (on a tablet or iPad you may need to click on the video).
